Here's why it's a mixed review

The ryokan's traditional aesthetics are really good, and the warm hospitality from the host adds a good touch. I was treated to delicious onigiri on departure .

Access to public transport was a bit challenging which limited our exploration efforts, and I found the accommodation fee somewhat unexpected. The remote location felt a bit off-putting.

Beautiful building and rooms with the private garden. Great and good location in a lovely quiet neighbourhood, good for visiting Kyoto.

The room was reasonably large with the private garden and with smoke detectors for safety measures. Location: the hotel was adjacent to convenience store, supermarket and retails stores and local restaurants...

Oh man, the traditional breakfast blew me away! So fresh and tasty. Plus, waking up to that garden view from my spacious room was magic! The whole vibe here is just pure tranquility. A really solid Ryokan experience after a day out in crazy Kyoto.

Sure, it was a bit of a trek to public transport (around a 15-20 min walk), and lugging my bags up to the second floor was no fun. Everything else shined through!

This so-called ryokan was a total letdown, no garden access and breakfast not included, even though I was expecting a luxurious experience. Honestly, weak wi-fi made family video calls impossible, how is that acceptable? I almost considered a good review, but the lack of special treatment really ruined it for me. Disgraceful.

it was a bit of a hike to public transit but the place was a delight. the room was spacious, had a private bathroom, and was super clean. the owner was welcoming and offered freshly prepared traditional breakfasts every morning.

The location felt a bit remote!!! Not ideal for those wanting to explore Kyoto easily. Stairs to the room were inconvenient!!! A shower directly in the room would have greatly improved our experience.

The staff were friendly and the rooms were beautiful. the location was excellent with convenient access to a variety of amenities such as convenience stores, supermarkets, local attractions, and bus stops. the hotel was just a 5-minute walk from the lake. Our stay was truly memorable thanks to the wonderful experience provided by Ryokan Tanoya.

The room had climate control, a fridge, and a dining area - super convenient! 🙌
